    Stock will trade sideways until near October when it will move up due to positive financials from Apple, new products, upgrades, more countries increasing iphone sales, and Christmas. I believe the new products will be in the form of a new computer line up which will be received positively. The stage for the iphone has been set this year but will continued be be improved as will the itouch. Just an opinion.

    Apple gets hit hard by the press when they do things right. When they get something wrong it is unbelievable. It is mind blowing how a stock which is arguably the most innovative company in the world can get trashed so badly. I think it really makes a statement of what this country is becoming.

    I wouldn't read too much in the low volume. This is holiday time and many players are away. I think the market will pause a little before giving more precise indications. Apple eventually will go higher, much much higher, but it will need some catalyst and by October there will be plenty.

    ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF APPLE, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ANALYSTS DISMANTLED AND PUT OUT TO PASTURE. APPLE HAS HAD MANY POSITIVES IN RELATION TO HOW THE COMPANY IS GROWING. YET, I BELIEVE, THE ANALYSTS ARE THROWING UP UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS FOR EARNINGS. APPLE IS GROWING THE COMPANY AT AN EXCEPTIONAL CLIP AND IT LEAVES ME TO WONDER IF ANALYSTS DON'T HAVE A FINANCIAL STAKE IN THE GAME. ZACH, I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN YOUR OPINION ON THE ROLE OF ANALYSTS IN THE MARKET. ARE THEY NECESSARY? CAN THE MARKET CARRY ON WITHOUT THEM? WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF COMPANIES QUIT GIVING GUIDANCE, MUCH LIKE GOOGLE HAS STATED?

    You have to pick and choose your analysts. I think they are a dichotomy. On one hand they are looked upon by investors for guidance, and yet on the other the vast majority of analysts rarely hit better than 50%. Look at most of the Apple analysts projecting targets north of $200. What is the time frame? is it the near term, or some time in the distant future? Sure Apple will someday hit and pass $200, but how does that help me over the next week, month, year?

    Too much more bad news to come out early this week. Uncertainty will lead to a downdraft for a bit, then because the markets really want to go up and are tired of going down, they may just get their way until something devastating happens.

    I disagreed with the earlier notion of a down trend for Apple, and am much more inclined to embrace your current analysis, as the pennant with declining volume was what I thought I was seeing last week. All in all, a positive for Apple and for the market, I believe. Since I have generally been very impressed with (and benefitted from) your analyses in the past, I decided that being on vacation was a reason for not having quite the same expert "feel" for the market as previously. <g>)

    Welcome back from vacation, I think AAPL will stay in a sideways trading range of +/- 2% for the next week or so until: a) there is more resolved on the "solution" for Freddy & Fannie & Lehman and
    b) the rest of Wall Street gets back from vacation and the volume increases.
    Right now it is a 50/50 call as to which way it is going in the next week. I believe it will resume an steady upward trend as we get into Sept and approaching the Oct quarterly report. Maybe this link will help <http://www.stockconsultant.com/consultnow/basic...>
