Can Apple Withstand the Fall of the Financials?

  • Here is what I wrote on the AFB last Saturday,
    "Freddie and Fannie this week.
IMHO, THE COMMON stockholders (value up to $8 billion) will be worthless. The preferred shares (value $35 Billion) will be diluted perhaps up to 90% by the new debt offering.

The preferred holders, Citi, perhaps Mer,BAC,GS and other banks will take a hit on Monday, causing the overall market to tank.

From all indications, Apple is doing great. Peter suggested in the Citi tech conference that mac sales are still great. The 3g iphone is doing well.

But the overall market stinks. Most mutual funds are down for the year. Retail investors may be reallocating their investments in mutual funds. Many pension funds make investment decisions only 4 times a year.

    I say $155-160."

  • to some degree it will hinge not only on financials but on global credit rates. Currently I would not expect to make big gains through the earnings announcement, without unsolicited guidance from steve, which is unlikely. With everything pulling down, for AAPL to just hold tight will be an accomplishment. But even with this recessed quarter, I would not be surprised if AAPL continues to beat old numbers by 35% or more at earnings. Could be a rough or dull ride to there.
  • Good idea on the investment strategy, can you loan me some money?
  • prudent advice. sometimes cash is king.
